I like change, at least when I think it's time. I started using IM and thought of a good screen name, dvycrkkt. You know like the old Wild West hero and frontiersman, Davey Crockett, but spelled a little different. Why, because I can't spell. Anywho, go to my new site and let me kno how you like the new name?

Ok so I am not the king of the wired frontier, but it sounds good with the song. You know Davey Davey Crockett, King of the wild frontier. Born on a mountain top in Tennesse, Greenest state in the land of the free. Be thankful you cannot hear me sing! I sound alot like a bad dial up connection. I have another Xanga site but I thought of this name later and thought i would give it a spin. Let me know if you like the new name?

When Traditions Pass

This Holiday Season has come all too quickly and has hit us hard this week-end. We had planned to travel to Walkerton for the annual Sellers family tradition of cutting down o’ the Christmas tree and pictures with Santa. We should have known something was off when our daughter started to throw up Friday night at 12:30 and continued through till dawn. We put off our journey till Sunday afternoon after a confirming call to the tree farm. Skip ahead to Sunday afternoon, We get up early, go to church and after a quick lunch off to the farm for fun and frolic as we ride the hay wagon to select the perfect tree. As we approach the farm the boys are getting excited to see Santa! As we pull in to the farm we are perplexed by the lack of cars in the parking lot, and it is heightened by the absence of Christmas music filling the air. Upon returning to the van after a quick bathroom break my wife and son look as though they’ve seen Rudolph mounted to the wall! Then the words I can scarcely comprehend fall from their lips, “There’s no Santa, No Christmas store, No high school band boosters selling hot chocolate, No hay ride, nothing! As we soon find out this is the last year for the Christmas tree farm! Christmas at the farm has been bought out by the Powered parachute business! After sixty two years they are giving it up! Disappointment is hard to fight off as we are told we have to drive ourselves back to the trees. The muddy path back to the trees is much like our emotions. Should we stay and at least get a tree, or should we leave empty handed? We suck up our feelings and stay to harvest the perfect tree! I think this one has been the best tree we have ever chosen, and it only takes five minutes! As our tree is shaken, wrapped and drilled my emotions feel much the same. The dull disappointment is playing like Christmas carols on an out of tune piano. This just isn’t right! The van is quiet as we travel the fifty five minute trip home. Our oldest son of seven years questions if Santa will come this year, or if he will know what they want? We tell him we can write Santa, or we can catch up him somewhere else. This tradition has passed, only to be filled with another no doubt. I wonder if I am too disappointed by this, after all it’s just a Christmas tree, an old man in red suit? We did get to spend time together as a family, and that’s a tradition that I pray will not pass away!

How do you like the chicken? Ok I was on this rant about the meaningless corporate world, but I don't even want to write a post about it because it is so meaningless! The real important stuff is that God said no yesterday. He said no to a camp job I was looking at. I am ok with it because it is a clear answer, but still a little diappointed. At least I am not being hunted by a mad king who wants to kill me. Davids' Psalms are such a comfort in times like these. Thank you God for your word! Even when you say no.

Be afraid... Be very afraid!

For all you people on the go Hardees’ restaurants (www.hardees.com) have just saved you time and money! For only $7.09 you can have one meal and not have to worry about eating the rest of the day, therefore saving you all that time and money you would have spent eating breakfast and dinner. The "Monster Thickburger" is two 1/3-pound slabs of Angus beef, four strips of bacon, three slices of cheese and mayonnaise on a buttered sesame seed bun (1420 calories) sells alone for $5.49 or $7.09 with medium fries (520 calories) and a soda (400 calories). Yes, that’s right; get all the calories you need for the day, 2340 calories in one meal, what a Deal! I wonder if they will run a promotion to get a free angioplasty with the purchase of 10 monster meals?

Last night I was driving through the little town of Bristol, Indiana with my two boys talking about the fun we had at our Cub Scout Pack Meeting when I noticed flashing lights behind me! What is this, I thought, what did I do? I calmly looked for my registration and license as the officer walked up to the truck. He politely informed me that I had neglected to signal my last two turns and that he wanted to see my driver’s license and registration. I gladly turned them over and waited as he walked back to his patrol car to check my history. As my boys and I sat waiting for him to return we were able to discuss the need to obey all of the rules of the road, no matter how small they seemed to be. The officer returned to our vehicle with a nice smile and a courteous verbal warning and sent us on our way. Later as we finished our devotions, I asked if god was behind them with flashing lights. When my two sons’s shared what God was warning them about. My oldest son shared how the younger son was being mean to him and how he was struggling with being a distraction during devotion time. The younger son shared how he agreed he was being mean and needed to be nicer. I was humbled and blown away at what God was revealing to my sons, they are seven and five! This morning I was reflecting on what God was warning me about and thought I need to be more deliberate with our direction right now. I am reading "Shadow of the Almighty, The Life and Testimony of Jim Elliot" by Elizabeth Elliot, and I am amazed at this man’s focus on serving God from a very young age to his marterdom at age 28. I certainly need to be more focused and more dependant on God as I lead my family into ministry in the coming months. I also was reminded of the grace that was given to me by the officer who could have given me two tickets, and how we receive God’s Grace upon Grace on a daily basis. Is God pulling you over to give you a spiritual warning? Romans 5:20 "The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more," (NIV)
